Lear is one of the world’s largest suppliers of automotive parts, specializing in complete seat systems and advanced wire harnesses for onboard electronics and serving major automakers worldwide—such as GM with its Cadillac Escalade IQL. Facing declining vehicle production and challenging growth in North America and Europe in 2025, Lear is cutting 15,000 jobs for a second consecutive year as part of a broader restructuring and automation push. To offset stagnation in Western markets, Lear is aggressively expanding its business with top Chinese car brands, such as EV leader BYD and consumer electronics maker turned carmaker Xiaomi, as well as Geely and others. The company has secured new contracts for both seating and e-systems with these fast-growing manufacturers, positioning itself to benefit from China’s rising auto production and the global shift toward electrification.
