Thor Industries was founded in 1980, when Wade F.B. Thompson and Peter B. Orthwein acquired Airstream, a manufacturer of travel trailers best known for its distinctive round and polished aluminum bodies in a 1950s aesthetic. Through an extensive series of domestic and cross border acquisitions, Thor Industries rose to become the world’s largest manufacturer of recreational vehicles and motor homes.
